More Info:
Phase field models are continuum (diffuse-interface) models that allow one to
study the dynamics and the morphology of interfaces.
The subject is relevant to three “Ecoles Doctorales”:
Physique (PHAST) (Phase field models are fundamental models for the physics of non-equilibrium interfaces),
Mathematics (Phase field models are the subject of a large literature in mathematics, especially for the study
of singular perturbation techniques and numerical analysis), and Material Sciences (phase field models are used
in the modeling of phase transformations and mechanical systems involving moving boundaries).
This interdisciplinary character of the lectures is central to these lectures.
