A thesis can be supervised by several people. Certain rules must nevertheless be satisfied:a thesis director ONLY be the principal director of the thesis in the doctoral school to which they are attached. They can be co-supervisor in any doctoral school. The rule in force within ED PHAST is that the accumulation of management responsibilities as the main supervisor and co-management cannot exceed 300% (a thesis as sole supervisor counts for 100%). In addition, a minimum commitment is required (co-direction of less than 20% makes little sense).
Requirement of ED PHAST
It is also required by theED PHAST that the principal supervisor holds the HDR.
Therefore, if the researcher or teacher-researcher does not hold the HDR, they will necessarily be co-director.
